German Testing Day 2019

The next German Testing Day will take place on 06 and 07 June 2019 in Kap Europa in Frankfurt/Main.

The German Testing Day is a company-independent conference on software quality assurance and its significance for the entire IT industry.

The focus of the conference is on the exchange of experiences. The German Testing Day is aimed at all those involved in the quality assurance of business IT systems as well as embedded systems and therefore offers an excellent platform for all people in the IT sector.

On the first day, the so called German Testing Night, there is even a talk about "Ethics in software testing - from theory to practice", which may be of interest for our topic. Unfortunately, the talk is announced to be in German.

The event organizer offers special ticket quotas for professors, employees of universities and students.

Final report on Sustainable Software Design published by the German Environment Agency

The results of the research project "Sustainable Software Design - Development of a Methodology for Evaluating the Resource Efficiency of Software Products" were published by German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA) at the end of 2018.

This final report presents the approach, measurement methodologies, tools, and criteria for sustainable software products. The study is breaking new ground, because so far the influence of software on the indirect use of natural resources could not be determined.
The researchers developed an impact model that shows the relationship between the use of software and energy consumption and hardware usage. Also a catalog of criteria with a total of 25 criteria and 76 indicators for checking the environmental impact of software products was developed.
By means of several case studies it could be shown that the evaluation and measurement method can be applied in practice and relevant differences of software products of the same functionality can be represented or measured.

Free Checklist for the Repository of 115 Web Eco-design Practices

GreenIT.fr developed a repository of 115 Web eco-design practices. Those practices were published in French in the second edition of the book "Eco-conception web" in 20151. I already blogged about the first edition in December 2013.

This second edition offers 15 more best practices and a maturity evaluation system based on the priority of the best practices.

In addition to the book, the best practices are also available in the form of a free checklist, which is published under license CC-By-NC-ND.

The checklist is available in HTML, Excel, PDF and Word at the following address: https://collectif.greenit.fr/ecoconception-web/
