2nd GInSEnG Workshop @ICT4S2016

During the ICT4S Conference 2016 in Amsterdam the 2nd Workshop "Green IN Software Engineering" has been held. The six presentations covered different aspects of the leitmotiv of the workshop "Converging Research and Practical GInSEng".


Meaningful Identifier Names Lead to a 20% Faster Detection of Defects

Researchers of the universities of Heidelberg and Passau showed in a controlled experiment that meaningful identifier names improve maintainability of source code in contrast to abbreviated or single letter identifiers.


Algorithm Watch

Algorithm Watch is an initiative of journalists, social scientists, and computer scientists who analyze the effects of algorithmic decision making on society.

In addition to private companies, it becomes apparent that also public authorities will employ methods for algorithmic decision making in the near future1.

While algorithmic decision methods can have a beneficial effect, they presumably introduce also substantial risks2.


Environmental Informatics Prize 2016 for Students

The Environmental Informatics Prize 2016 is awarded for students' works in the field of environmental informatics. Projects can be done either as part of a course or for a degree (excluding PhD) at an academic university or a university of applied sciences.

The projects must demonstrate the contribution of methods and technologies of informatics to the solution of environmental problems or dissemination of information supporting sustainable development in general.
There is a prize sum of 2000 Euro that will be divided among three winners.

4th workshop "Environmental Informatics between Sustainability and Change"

The German Informatics Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI)) is organizing the 46th INFORMATICS 2016 conference by the end of September. The motto of this year's conference is: "Computer Science: by humans, for humans". The conference will take place from 26th to 30th of September, 2016 in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Contributions for the "Environmental Informatics between Sustainability and Change" workshop should enclose max. 12 pages for a "long paper" and max. 6 pages for a "short paper". They can be written in German or English. Please use the LNI format style:https://www.gi.de/index.php?id=171

4th International Conference on ICT for Sustainability (ICT4S) 2016

The 4th International Conference ICT for Sustainability will be held in 2016 in Amsterdam, from August 30 to September 2. The main theme is “Smart and Sustainable“.


PhD Workshop “Environmental Informatics – envision concepts, present approaches and discuss implementations”

The EnviroInfo 2016 invites new researchers and PhD students to share their current research or research proposals with a community that always thrived on new ideas, concepts and research questions. The PhD workshop will focus on bringing PhD students from similar fields together and provide them with a platform where they can network, discuss approaches and challenges as well as present their current state of work.
